Art and culture is an important part of the education at Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in India. KVs integrate art, culture, and craft into academic subjects like history, social studies, geography, and languages to provide an interdisciplinary learning experience. KVs also conduct activities to preserve India’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH). Here are some ways that art and culture is incorporated into the curriculum at KVs: Art and craft Students learn skills like wood-craft and sewing, and make things with a variety of materials. National Integration Camp Students learn about the culture, art, architecture, and traditions of India and other countries. They also get to showcase their creativity and artistic skills through competitions like group song, dance, theater, and painting. Preservation of ICH KVs conduct activities to preserve India’s ICH, which includes songs, music, dance, theater, folk traditions, performing arts, rites and rituals, paintings, and writings.
